Description
Postage stamps are sometimes real works of art. Printed on a special type of paper using a special ink and with different serrations, they feature brilliant designs and are made using some very advanced printing processes.
Each manufacturer did their best to ensure that their miniaturized work of art was properly designed, which prompted the United States of America to pursue the idea of developing a platform that would facilitate communication and exchange of information between postage stamp manufacturers around the world. As a result of this initiative, the Association of State Postage Stamp Printers was created in 1986.
The World Association of State Postage Stamp Printers is an institution that brings together manufacturers from all over the world. The meetings which are organized in the form of a conference are currently held every two years.
Participation in the association's work has many advantages due to the fact that the conferences constitute a space for debate and exchange of know-how concerning the technological achievements of each country in the manufacturing of postage stamps. Furthermore, the conferences allow the establishment of contacts as they contribute largely to joint research which aims to develop new trends for the development of postal figurines.
The association's charter specifies all the rules to be adopted without having financial means. The fundamental rule is the active participation of all these members in the organization of the conference.
Conferences were held respectively in the United States in 1986 and 1987, in France in 1989, in Spain in 1992, in Japan in 1994, in Germany in 1996, in the United States of America in 1998, in Italy in 2000, in Poland in 2002, in South Korea in 2004 and in the People's Republic of China in 2006.
The 12th conference of the world association of state printers of postage stamps, scheduled from November 2 to 6, 2008, will be held in Algeria.
