Description
The caper tree is a small, thorny, Mediterranean shrub that appears insignificant until its flowers unfurl large creamy petals around a bundle of purple stamens, revealing an exceptional, unfortunately very ephemeral, beauty.
Its spreading branches, reaching more than 1 m long, have glaucous, persistent, slightly fleshy and oval-shaped leaves.
Its pedunculated, solitary, axillary flowers only bloom in late spring or early summer.
From the Capparidaceae family, the caper tree is common in Algeria.
Its flower buds or capers are used as a condiment.
