Description
The automation of wilaya capitals having been decided during the 1970-1973 Quadrennial Plan, it was necessary to review the organization of the telephone network to allow the development of automatic intercity switching.
In order to offer a good quality long distance telephone service, this new organization includes, in a first stage, the installation of four four-wire regional transit centers in Algiers, Oran, Ouargla and Constantine connected two by two.
To each of them, all the cluster centers in the region will be connected, with some exceptions. Under the 1974-1977 plan, it is planned to increase the capacity of these centers to facilitate the flow of interregional automatic telephone traffic and provide access to the centers to be automated during this period.
The networking of the switching network will be continued by the subsequent establishment of other regional transit centers. Alongside the establishment of these centers, it was also decided to create an International Departure and Arrival Center (CIDA) in Algiers and International Departure Centers in Oran, Constantine and Ouargla (CID).
The International Departure and Arrival Center in Algiers, in service since April 1975, makes it possible to gradually introduce international automatic and semi-automatic telephone operation. Associated with the existing and planned high-capacity international submarine links and the satellite telecommunications earth station, this means will facilitate our country's access to the global automatic network defined by the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee.
From this program, direct automatic connections have already been made for subscribers in the areas of Algiers, Oran, Constantine and Annaba with their correspondents in France, Spain, Italy, the Federal Republic of Germany and Belgium.
