Description
In Algeria, there are at least five species of carnation: Dianthus serrulatus, Dianthus sylvestris, Dianthus balbisii, Dipcadi serotinum and Dianthus crinitus.
This herbaceous, perennial plant with a pronounced scent, which prefers exposure to the sun and blooms all summer, belongs to the caryophyllaceae family.
The name which means Jupiter flower in Greek is only a tribute to the beauty of the plant. Widespread since Antiquity, it is believed to have originated on the shores of the Mediterranean.
Portuguese revolutionaries adopted it as a symbol. The genus includes nearly 300 species and the cultivated ornamental varieties are countless.
