Description
The group of red milkweeds (edible milkweeds) is very easy to identify, because not only are they mushrooms strictly linked to needle trees (pines, spruces, etc.), but their milk, instead of being white when it flows from the blades or injured flesh, is immediately colored red.
They all tend to become stained with green or can even, once old, be completely invaded by dirty green.
We encounter two species that have been better known for a long time. One is a delicious lactaria whose milk when flowing is carrot or vermilion red and the other, blood lactaria, is wine red.
These two species are more or less sought after edibles, the bloodroot being much more delicate than the other.
