Description
To make clothing, rugs, tents and other products, we use tools specially designed for this purpose.
loom
The high-heddle loom carries the warp in the vertical direction and does not exceed 2.50 m wide. It is made up of four wooden pieces: two vertical uprights and two horizontal beams.
There is also the low smooth loom for weaving threads (tent accessories). The craft is made of local materials, such as olive wood and reed.
wool
The use of wool as a textile fiber is widely attested from the Bronze Age in northern countries (around 1600-1500 BC), in particular by complete pieces discovered in peat bogs. Very quickly, the wool produced in the Mediterranean, fine and comfortable, was able to establish itself for export.
Wool is very useful, because it makes it possible to make strong clothing intended primarily to protect oneself from the cold and bad weather. The properties of wool are warmth, elasticity and waterproofing.
Woolen fabric, mainly intended for clothing, but also used as blankets and hangings, acquired, along the way, a prodigious success with the making of sheets to which the weaving gives a beautiful velvety appearance and a plain surface.
