Description
The rose has long been used in the preparation of solutions used in herbal medicine. A particularly remarkable plant, cherished and the object of all attention, it was obvious that men sought virtues that transcend its appearance or its scent.
Its symbolism and the expressive capacities attributed to it are, ultimately, matched only by its phytopharmaceutical qualities.
Herbal medicine, which was the medicine of past eras, has widely explored the medicinal properties of rose. Thus, rose petals, particularly from Rosa damascena, are distilled by steam distillation (in a still) and the extract thus obtained makes it possible to manufacture rose petal essential oil.
This product has revealed a certain number of therapeutic or cosmetic properties. While it has long been used as an antiseptic and antihemorrhagic (hemostatic), its astringent and toning qualities have also been proven by cosmetics.
Can only be used externally, it provides skin care, while, added to a vegetable oil, it is used in spinal massages to alleviate nervous tension. Rose petal infusions are recommended to stop intestinal problems. A powder made with crushed rosehip fruits is laxative and diuretic.
Very rich in vitamin C, the fruit of the rose bush, called rosehip, is used to make jams. Centuries ago, men decided to make tasty jams from rose petals, particularly colorful and fragrant for major events and well served in high society.
