Description
m'lilès is a shrub 1 to 5 m high, with evergreen, shiny, ovoid, leathery, loosely toothed leaves with thick midribs, trinerved at the base and stipules arranged at the base of the petiole.
Its flowers, devoid of petals, grow in small axillary clusters.
Its fruit is shaped like a red berry then black when ripe, the size of a pea, contains four stones.
It is common in the Tell bushes. Alaternum is a plant known for its common use in traditional medicine.
Its leaves are astringent and its berries are considered purgative. The bark of the trunk or root is recommended against jaundice.
