The Cerasus avium cherry tree
In Algeria, the cherry tree occupies an area close to 5,500 ha.
Depending on altitude and climate conditions, flowering varies from February to the end of March.
From each flower bud come 2 to 4 flowers on average and sometimes 6.
The flowers have peduncles 3 to 5 cm long, 5 white petals and 30 to 40 yellowish stamens.
The fruits mature at the beginning of June.
The preferred areas for expansion are Kabylia where it is already developed, especially in Aïn El Hammam and Larbaâ Nath Irathen, and Médéa, Miliana, Hamma and Tlemcen.
The cherry tree is also found in a small percentage in Constantinois (Batna).
